Facility Design
Design Systems, Inc.'s Paint Finishing Group provides engineering expertise in facility planning as it relates to processes, equipment, utilities, and safety for a variety of industries including automotive, food and beverage, military, aerospace, and other industrial sectors. Intelligent facility planning is crucial to the long-term operational success of any business. Our process facility planning services work closely with your staff to precisely balance historical operational data and anticipate future needs. Using sophisticated modeling software and tools, we analyze product throughput, capacities, consumables to ensure that each site is operationally "right-sized" to the business' needs, current and future, while leveraging assets to make the facility as productive, cost-effective, and safe as it can possibly be.

Our Facility Planning Services include:
- Site Evaluation & Selection
- Facility Planning – Short and Long-Term
- Logistics Studies
- Warehousing and Supply Chain
- Project Scheduling
- Utility Analysis
- Acquisition Screening and Due Diligence
- Permit Application and Retention
- Budgeting
- Health Assessments
Health Assessments
Health Assessments of your manufacturing systems including conveyors, process tooling and other equipment can be one of the best investments you make to minimize lost production and the costs associated with catastrophic failures. It can literally pay for itself many times over by allowing you to anticipate failures and plan remediation rather than react to it. Design Systems, Inc.'s teams of trained engineering specialists can quickly assess your plant equipment for potential failures with no disruption to your production.

- Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
P&IDs play a significant role in the maintenance and modification of the process that it describes. It is critical to demonstrate the physical sequence of equipment and systems, as well as how these systems connect. The diagram also provides the basis for the development of system control schemes during the design stage, permitting further safety and operational investigations, such as the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) often referred to as HAZOP.
Design Systems, Inc. will detail all equipment and associated processes in this representation:
- Key piping and instrument details
- Control and shutdown schemes
- Safety and regulatory requirements
- Basic start up and operational information
Items typically noted on a Piping and Instrumentation Diagram include:
- All valves and their identifications
- Instrumentation and designations
- Mechanical equipment with names and numbers
- Process piping, sizes and identification
- Vents, drains, special fittings, sampling lines, reducers, increasers and swaggers
- Permanent start-up and flush lines
- Flow directions
- Interconnections references
- Control inputs and outputs, interlocks
- Interfaces for class changes
- Computer control system input
- Identification of components and subsystems delivered by others
- Hazard and Operability Studies
Hazard and Operability Studies
A hazard and operability study (HAZOP) is a structured and systematic examination of a planned or existing process or operation in order to identify and evaluate problems that may represent risks to personnel or equipment, or prevent efficient operation. The HAZOP technique was initially developed to analyze chemical process systems, but has later been extended to other types of systems and also to complex operations such as nuclear power plant operation and to use software to record the deviation and consequence. A HAZOP is a qualitative technique based on guide-words and is carried out by a multi-disciplinary team (HAZOP team) during a set of meetings.
Let Design Systems, Inc.'s engineering team lead your facility to compliance and safety by performing a Hazard and Operability study.
